Toyota Hybrid Sales Go Over 10 Million

Toyota recently announced that the company has now sold over 10 million hybrid vehicles world-wide, including hybrid plug-ins, as of the end of January 2017. This milestone was reached just nine months after the company reached the 9 million vehicle mark last April. In addition, Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) saw the division's cumulative hybrid and plug-in hybrid sales reach a total of more than three million by the end of 2016.

Toyota calculates that using of Toyota's hybrid vehicles -- in lieu of conventional gasoline-powered vehicles -- has resulted in approximately 77 million fewer tons of CO2 emissions and saved roughly 7.66 billion gallons of gasoline. These results show that hybrid powertrains are now mainstream solutions to helping reduce the production of greenhouse gases and other pollutants. The company believes belief that widespread adoption of vehicles that are friendlier to the environment can make a significant, positive global impact.
